Music 2A/6A/16A Information
Fall 2009
Music 2A, 6A, and 16A must be taken concurrently for a total of 7 units.
Music 6A. Elementary Theory
Students must first test into Music 6A via a placement exam given on the first day of class. A sample placement test is available. For additional questions regarding Music 6ABC please contact Sam Nichols. Music 3A is recommended for students who do not pass the test and/or need additional work on music fundamentals.
Assuming successful placement in Music 6A, students must enroll in both Music 16A and Music 2A:
Music 16A. Elementary Musicianship
A general assessment
including simple melodic and rhythmic dictation using both music
notation and (written) solfège is given on the first day of class. Note
that this test cannot exclude students from the class. Students wishing
to place out of Music 16A may stay for an additional section of the
exam which approximates the written final for the course and requires
an individual sightsinging audit using solfège.
Music 2A. Keyboard Competence
Students wishing to test out of any level of Music 2 (A, B, or C) must pass the juries for that level. Please view the syllabi and keyboard progression
sheets. Individual placement tests for keyboard will be given on a drop-in basis during Fall Welcome, September 21–23, times and location TBA. Students who have
additional questions regarding Music 16A and/or Music 2A, should
contact Amelia Triest.
