Rehearsals:
               Mon/Wed: 4:10 to 6:00
               Sectionals (see below).
               Added rehearsals if necessary.

Performances:  All performances are, of course, mandatory.
December 3: Mondavi Center Concert. 4pm rehearsal and 7pm concert

Attendance:
To be present is to be actively and positively engaged in the rehearsal process! Attendance
will be taken at every rehearsal.  Please make every reasonable effort to be present at all
rehearsals.  Do not schedule appointments or meetings during band class time.  These will
not be treated as excused absences.  You will be allowed one unexcused absence (other
than dress rehearsals) with no repercussions.  Excused absences are granted for illness,
emergency and immutable school conflicts only.  You must request excuse by emailing the
band manager at least one day before your absence (except in the case of illness) or
submitting an absence request form.   Any additional absences, up to a total of 2, will
require mitigation through “volunteer” labor for a similar amount of time, or completion of an
academic assignment (at the discretion of the director). More than 2 absences will put you
in grave risk of failure, and will require a meeting with the director and section manager to
discuss whether you will be allowed to perform. Performances are, of course, mandatory.

Attitude:
A performing ensemble is a team, and all must work together to maximize results. Please be
respectful of and encouraging toward your colleagues at all times.  To succeed as a group,
we must maintain a positive rehearsal environment, where it is safe to try new things, even
sometimes to the point of failure. If we respect everyone’s efforts, we maintain the
environment of comfort for each of us to strive to surpass our own current limitations.

Practice:
Members are expected to put in sufficient outside practice time to maintain their playing
and to prepare their parts in timely fashion (i.e. NOT the week before the concert.)  It is
expected that this would mean practicing several times per week outside of class time.
Beginning week 3, random playing tests will take place at the end of each rehearsal.  The
system for these tests will be explained in class.

Sectionals:
It is expected that the section will meet outside of class at least 3 times during the quarter.
Section managers will schedule sectionals with section members, and will report the
attendance and result to the director and the band manager at the end of the quarter.
Each player should make it to at least 2 sectionals (more than three may need to be
scheduled to accomplish this).  One of these sectionals must have taken place prior to the
performance in Vacaville. At least one sectional must also be scheduled with a coach –
with either the band director, an applied faculty member, graduate student, or an outside
                          advanced player on the instrument.

Section Managers:
Section managers will be named during the first week, and will coordinate the rotation of
parts, scheduling of sectionals, and general operation of the section.
