Causeway Youth Band Festival

Congratulations to all participants for a great Festival! We hope that you all had an awesome time playing in the Mondavi center and working with Mark Camphouse. The UC Davis Concert Band and the Sacramento State Wind Program host this concert band weekend extravaganza featuring composer and conductor Mark Camphouse as guest conductor and clinician. The festival culminates with this closing performance featuring the festival bands, the Meridian Arts Ensemble, the UC Davis Concert Band, and the Sacramento State Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Pete Nowlen, director.

Each of the four bands (the 7-9 grade Festival Band, 10-12 grade Festival Band, CSUS Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, UCD Concert Band) will be performing music by Mark Camphouse conducted by him, and premiering an arrangement of a Zappa Chart, created for that group by Jon Nelson, with the Meridian Arts Ensemble.  The festival bands will be conducted by Mark Camphouse, Pete Nowlen, and Bob Halseth.

As part of the Capital Section CMEA Fall Inservice, there will also be clinics for music teachers of ALL types on the day of the concert.
 

Mark Camphouse

Mark Camphouse will be joining us as guest conductor and clinician.  

B.M., M.M., Northwestern University. A product of the rich cultural life of Chicago, composer-conductor Mark Camphouse was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1954 and received his formal musical training at Northwestern University. He began composing at an early age, with the Colorado Philharmonic premiering his First Symphony at age 17. His works for wind band have received widespread critical acclaim and are performed frequently throughout the United States and abroad. Engagements as a guest conductor, lecturer and clinician have taken him to 36 states, Canada and Europe. Mr. Camphouse is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and serves as conductor of the National Band Association’s Young mentor project. The newest member to the full-time faculty at George Mason University, Mr. Camphouse was formerly Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Radford University in Virginia.
