Beth Levy Wins SAM Award
Professor Beth Levy won the Society of American Music’s (SAM) Irving Lowens Award for best article: “From Orient to Occident: Aaron Copland and the Sagas of the Prairie,” which appears in the book Aaron Copland and His World (Princeton University Press, 2005). Levy’s article discusses the early reception of Copland’s music, his transformation into an American/western hero, and his Music for Radio, which gained the subtitle Saga of the Prairies after a CBS-sponsored contest inviting listeners to re-title the work.
