Ana Ruth Alonso Minutti is a Ph.D. candidate in Musicology and
Criticism. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in music from the
Universidad de las Américas, in Puebla Mexico. She wrote her thesis
using music hermeneutics and analysis to approach a contemporary
chamber work by Mexican composer Mariana Villanueva (b. 1964). A short
version of it is published in the academic journal Heterofonía
Vol. XXXII. Currently her doctoral dissertation explores collaborative
agents in the work of another Mexican composer, Mario Lavista (b.
1943); Prof. Beth Levy is her primary adviser. She has recently been
able to present some of her latest research in several academic
conferences, both in Mexico and the U.S. Alonso-Minutti has been part of the editorial committee of Brújula, an interdisciplinary academic journal with a focus on Latin American literary studies, published here at UCD (under the auspices of the Hemispheric Institute of the Americas). She will be co-coordinator of the next volume to be released December 2007, titled "Art and Encounters." She finds great pleasure in the editorial work and in interdisciplinary projects. Some of her other interests are theology, poetry and composition. She has received several awards, among them: UCD Dissertation Year Fellowship (2006-07), UC MEXUS Dissertation Research Grant (2006-07), Graduate Studies Travel Award (2006), Ellen Hansen Award, for her composition "Voto de fe" (2003), and Arts and Cultural Studies Dean's Summer Research Award (2002). |
