He is author of the first Catalogue of the Works of Hector Berlioz (Kassel, etc.: Bärenreiter, 1987), the style-guide Writing About Music (Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 1988), Berlioz, a life-and-works (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard University Press, 1989), and Masterworks, a multi-media textbook package (Prentice Hall, 1998, and subsequent edns. to 2007), and The Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, 1828-1967 (Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 2004). Holoman is conductor of the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra.
