Robert Sabino was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and finished his formal music education at Lehman College in New York City. In 1975, he embarked on a career as a composer as well as a studio and touring musician for Bryan Adams, Laurie Anderson, Ashford & Simpson, Philip Bailey, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Kim Carnes, Roseanne Cash, Chic, Rodney Crowell, Peter Frampton, Ace Frehley (Kiss), Art Garfunkel, Herbie Hancock, Debbie Harry, Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band), Mick Jagger, Mick Jones, Madonna, Johnny Mathis, Odyssey, Teddy Pendergrass, Power Station, *Diane Richards, Diana Ross, *Elliot Rothpearl, Todd Rundgren, John Sebastian, *Nick Seeger, Charlie Sexton, Jules Shear, *The Simms Brothers Band,  Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Simon and Garfunkel, Sister Sledge, Chris Spedding, Fonzi Thornton , *Tin Huey, and Steve Winwood  (*as producer also). He has recorded and published his compositions on Electra Records for “The Simms Brothers Band” and co-wrote the title track to the Peter Frampton album “Premonition.” He has been awarded 27 gold or platinum albums for U.S. sales alone as a studio musician.

Sabino assisted Professor Chris Reynolds from 2001–2005 in the History of Rock Music, which Reynolds initiated at UC Davis. He started teaching the History of Rock course in 2006.

Sabino is the music director at Grace Episcopal Church in Fairfield and has been a member of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians since 1993. He has been a member of the Music and Liturgy Commissions for the Diocese of Sacramento (1995–97-RC) and the Diocese of Northern California (1997–2007-Episcopal).
