Duo X: Contemporary Experimental Music at the Mondavi Center

Duo X, a miniature East-West ensemble comprising UC Davis Department of Music artists-in-residence Laura Carmichael (clarinet, electronics) and Naomi Sato (saxophone, shō, electronics), brings its extreme experimental music and improvisation to the Studio Theatre of the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 18.

The program premieres works featuring live electronics composed for Duo X by Marcel Wierckx and by UC Davis faculty composer Sam Nichols. Also on the program are a new version of “Two believers…” by Ken Ueno (with live video by Wierckx), “Urban Doldrums” by Ann La Berge, “Etude” for solo bass clarinet by Toshio Hosokawa and “Death and Mirror” for solo saxophone and soundtrack by Tomohisa Hashimoto. The presentation also showcases “Byproduct,” an electronics and video installation by the Melvin Brothers and Duo X.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
