Empyrean Ensemble Presents The 51% Majority
The Department of Music’s Empyrean Ensemble presents The 51% Majority, an extraordinary program of modern works by female composers, including piano etudes by both
Unsuk Chin and Augusta Read Thomas, Binge Delirium for solo percussion by Yu-Hui Chang, Sounds of the Forest by Sofia Gubaidulina, Several Concertos by Judith Weir, Circus Maximus by co-director Laurie San Martin, and the world premier of The Memory Palace by Ann Callaway.
The performance takes place at 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, in the Studio Theatre of Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. A “Demystifying the Music” talk with UC Davis
ethnomusicologist Sandra Graham precedes the show at 7 p.m.

Empyrean Ensemble, founded by composer Ross Bauer, is directed by Kurt Rohde and Laurie San Martin. Empyrean’s core players are Terrie Baune, violin; Tod Brody, flute; Chris
