Ives Quartet Performs Gershwin, Dvořák, Ives at the Mondavi Center

The UC Davis Department of Music presents the Ives Quartet, artist-in-residence, at the Studio Theatre of the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, Sunday, Feb. 1,  at 7 p.m. The performance will comprise Gershwin’s “Lullaby,” Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 (“American”) and Charles Ives’ String Quartet No. 2.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.

In a related artist-in-residence event, the Ives Quartet will perform in a free Noon Concert in  Room 115, Music Building, on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 12:05 p.m.

Inspired by the passionate, artistic commitment and unique temperament of American composer Charles Ives (1874–1954), the Ives Quartet attracts critical enthusiasm for its “practice of reveling in the unfamiliar.” Excelling equally at the interpretation of established masterworks and seldom-heard compositions, the San Francisco-based quartet travels nationally and internationally to perform at noted chamber music series and festivals. The ensemble’s ability for both refinement and rock-and-roll intensity conveys music that is “thoroughly absorbed, idiomatic, performed from the inside-out” (San Jose “Mercury News”). Read more
