Davis, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2009)—The Meridian Arts Ensemble, an artist-in-residence at UC Davis, performs Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre of the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Meridian is the faculty brass ensemble at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.

The Meridian Arts Ensemble comprises five brass players and one percussionist exploring a broad range of music—everything from J.S. Bach to Frank Zappa—with a special emphasis on the music of today. Meridian’s Zappa arrangements have brought the group critical and popular acclaim, interviews on NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and performances in both concert halls and rock clubs. Commissions from Milton Babbitt, Elliott Sharp, Tania Leon, Mark Applebaum, Stephen Barber and many other artists have given the ensemble a balanced and broad repertoire. Meridian’s catalog on the Channel Classics label exemplifies the group’s range, from an album of Baroque and Renaissance music to a recent release featuring music of Central and South America.
