New Music from Davis: Empyrean Ensemble Highlights Graduate Student Works

The Empyrean Ensemble concludes its 21st season with a concert showcasing all new works written expressly for Empyrean by UC Davis graduate student composers Hendel Almétus, An Tan, Ching-Yi Wang, Ben Irwin, Sue-Hye Kim, Garrett Shatzer and Davide Verotta. The performance takes place Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. There is a pre-concert talk, “Demystifying the Music,” at 6 p.m.

Ensemble-in-residence at UC Davis, Empyrean has premiered approximately 200 works and performs throughout California, including appearances at prominent music festivals and concert series. Founded by composer Ross Bauer, Empyrean is directed by Kurt Rohde, Laurie San Martin and Mika Pelo.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
