UC Davis Department of Music Announces October Free Events

The UC Davis Department of Music offers many free concerts showcasing a diverse range of contemporary and classical works. October heralds the return of the annual Noon Concert performance series, with initial concerts held in the beautiful Grand Lobby of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The first Thursday features Keith Bohm, saxophone, while subsequent concerts showcase Hrabba Altadottir, solo violin, and Violet Grgich, harpsichord.  Other free events include a Noon Concert and Master Class with pianist Emanuele Arciuli.

Thursday, Oct. 2, 12:05 p.m., Grand Lobby, Mondavi Center

Noon Concert: Keith Bohm, saxophone, with John Cozza, piano. Works by Paule Maurice, Armando Ghidoni, Robert Planel, Gustavo Beytelmann, and Jean-Baptiste Singelée.

 

Thursday, Oct. 9, 12:05 p.m., Grand Lobby, Mondavi Center

Noon Concert: Hrabba Altadottir, violin. Works for solo violin by Bach, Ysaÿe, and UC Davis’s newest faculty member, Mika Pelo.

 

Tuesday, Oct. 14, 12:05 p.m., Room 115, Music Building

Noon Concert: Emanuele Arciuli, piano. Ives: Piano Sonata No. 2 (“Concord, Mass., 1840–60”). Cosponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco.


Tuesday, Oct. 14, 3:10 p.m., Room 230, Music Building

Master Class: Emanuele Arciuli, piano. Contemporary piano composition and reading of works composed by UC Davis graduate students. Cosponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. Observers welcome.

Noon Concert: Natsuki Fukasawa, piano. Romantic Period works by Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann, and Rachmaninov.

 

Thursday, Oct. 23, 12:05 p.m., Grand Lobby, Mondavi Center

Noon Concert: Violet Grgich, harpsichord, with Colin Shipman, viola da gamba. French Baroque works by Forqueray and other period composers.

 

Friday, Oct 24, 3 pm, Room 115, Music Building

Valente Lecture: Color Music in Concept and Practice, with author and publisher Wayne Slawson.

Senior Recital: Caitlin Roddy, flute, with Miles Graber, piano. Works by Musgrave, Martinú, Marais, and Ian Clarke.

 

Thursday, Oct. 30, 12:05 p.m., Grand Lobby, Mondavi Center

Noon Concert: Dennis Edwards, piano, and Steve Webber, bass, present Jazz and the Great American Songbook, including works by George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Henry Mancini, and Irving Berlin.
