UC Davis Early Music Ensemble Features Renaissance Works Composed for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The UC Davis Early Music Ensemble, under the direction of David Nutter, presents a concert of Renaissance vocal and instrumental music on Saturday, December 8, at 8 p.m. at St Martin’s Episcopal Church, 640 Hawthorne Lane, West Davis.
December 8 is the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, established as doctrine by Pope Sixtus IV in 1476. The performance will feature music written for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary this occasion by Flemish composer Henricus Isaac (c. 1450/55–1517), as well as other works to Marian texts by Josquin and Monteverdi. Also appearing will be the Renaissance wind ensemble Alta Sonora playing works by Isaac, Josquin, Martini, and Mouton on shawm, cornetto, trombone, and recorders.
