UC Davis Symphony Family Concert: “Barber of Seville” Overture and More
The UC Davis Symphony Orchestra—D. Kern Holoman, conductor—concludes its 50th season on Tuesday, June 2, with a family-friendly concert featuring Rossini’s “Barber of Seville” Overture, Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony (“Pastoral”) and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor with John Abdallah, violin. The performance takes place at 7 p.m. in Jackson Hall of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
The “Barber of Seville” is Rossini’s comic masterpiece, which includes Figaro’s famous aria “Largo al factotum.” The overture measures up to the accomplishment, with witty themes and memorable writing for solo woodwinds and French horn. Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony speaks of rustic delights: the simple joys of country folk, first the beauty and then the untamed fury of Nature. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto proved to be the composer’s last and probably most influential orchestral work.
Tickets are $5 general admission. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
