Davis, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2009)—The UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, now under the direction of conductor Christian Baldini, opens its 51st season on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 8 p.m. in Jackson Hall of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The program comprises Dvořák’s Fifth Symphony, Ginastera’s Four Dances from “Estancia” and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, featuring guest soloist Eric Zivian.
The Ravel concerto is one of the composer’s last major works, a piece Ravel himself called “a concerto in the truest sense … written very much in the same spirit as those of Mozart and Saint-Saëns.”
Pianist Eric Zivian is a member of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble and the Zivian-Tomkins Duo. He has also performed with UC Davis’ Empyrean Ensemble and is a frequent guest artist on the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's Chamber Faculty Artists Series.
Tickets are $10/14/16 for adults and $5/7/8 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-2787 or 866-754-2787 (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
