UC Davis Wind Ensemble and Concert Band Perform with Sacramento Elementary School Student Honor Band in Christmas Concert
The UC Davis Wind Ensemble/University Concert Band, along with the North Sacramento School District Honor Band, perform in Jackson Hall of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 pm. The Honor Band—some 80 strong—represents several elementary school bands in what was once the North Sacramento Unified School District (now unified with the Sacramento School District). The event delivers a unique opportunity for the Honor Band to perform literally side by side with
UC Davis musicians, and each piece the Honor Band performs will be conducted by a district instructor. The two groups will play arrangements of traditional Christmas carols, and the UC Davis ensemble will perform works by great composers of the repertoire, including Holst’s Second Suite for Military Band, which includes the well-known tunes “Fantasia on the Dargason” and “Song without Words.” The UC Davis band will also perform Nitro, a fast-moving, somewhat “explosive” work by composer Frank Ticheli, who conducted the piece himself at the Concert Band’s Festivity of Bands last season.
Tickets for the concert are $8/11/14 for adults and $4/5.50/7 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-ARTS (2787) or 866-754-ARTS (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
