University Chorus Presents Americana: Music from the Heartlands
Jeffrey Thomas directs the University Chorus, along with the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, in a program titled Americana, featuring Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna,” a five-movement piece with texts drawn from sacred Latin sources, each containing references to Light, and David Conte’s “Elegy for Matthew,” a touching choral tribute to the life of Matthew Shepard (1976–98), a young man whose life was taken in one of America's most notorious hate crimes. The concert, which also includes works by Aaron Copland and Stephen Foster, takes place on Sunday, June 1, 8 pm, in Jackson Hall of Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $10/13/16 for adults and $5/6.50/8 for students and children. Purchase tickets online at MondaviArts.org, through the Mondavi Center ticket office at 530-754-ARTS (2787) or 866-754-ARTS (toll-free), or at the door. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request.
