Christopher Liao

Christopher Liao iliaos a third year food science microbiology major and music minor. He began studying the violin at the age of eight and disliked the instrument for many years until he heard Christian Ferras' recording of the Sibelius violin concerto. Chris joined the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra as a first violin in the fall of 2010 and took part in the Spain 2012 concert tour. Previously, he was concertmaster of the late Diablo Youth Symphony from 2007-10, and was co-concertmaster in high school. A quartet musician at heart, he regularly engages in chamber groups and freelances for various ensembles in the area. Aside from music, Chris is a food enthusiast, a swimmer, a badminton player, a biker, and a well-traveled individual (twenty countries and counting). Known as the "man with the yellow case," he can often be spotted enjoying a good book alongside coffee or tea, or giving in to an unhealthy obsession with pearl milk tea. He currently studies with Jolán Friedhoff and Dan Flanagan.
